What is a Type A personality and does having such a personality increase your chance of having heart attacks?
Negative Effects of Type A BehaviorOver the years, the type of extra stress that most Type A people experience takes a toll on their health and lifestyle. The person limits love relationships and is often not really present with loved ones. They reduce activities that nurture the human spirit.
The following are some of the negative outcomes of this personality style.
The following are some of the negative outcomes of this personality style.
- Hypertension: There is a proven association between heart risk factors such as high blood pressure and Type A personalities.
- Heart Disease: Early research shows that there is a causal relationship between Type A Personality and coronary heart disease - heart attacks. This is outlined in Friedman and Friedman's 1974 Book.
- Job Stress: Type A people usually find themselves in stressful, demanding jobs (and sometimes the jobs create the Type A behavior), which can lead to stress-related health problems.
- Social Isolation: Those with TABP often alienate others, or spend too much time on work and focus too little on relationships, putting them at risk for social isolation and divorce and the emotional pain that comes with it.

Reducing the risk to your Heart of Type A Personality
"If you're a Type A personality, learn strategies for stress management, learn to channel your energies into something positive," he adds. "It works. I've seen it work. People who exercise, who do tae kwon do, whatever, funnel some emotional, physical excess energies into channels that reduce their stress." https://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/news/20030722/type-triggers-heart-disease.
Most people now know that Type A personality characteristics have something to do with being competitive and work-obsessed and can bring an increased risk of heart-health problems. Myth: Type A Achieves more than Type B
Type A personality traits, including competitiveness, time urgency, and a tendency toward workaholism might be seen (particularly by Type A people) as beneficial for career success. But not. Type B personalities—those who are less focused on competitiveness and can enjoy their journey also achieve without stress! Type B will remain healthy longer. Type B also will remain patient, intelligent and creative longer than the Type A.
This doesn't mean that Type Bs don't have a drive to succeed. They can work hard and take real pride in their accomplishments, but they don't stress about being first or achieving the most. Type Bs also tend to be more creative and low-stress by nature. Fortunately, some of this relaxed perspective can be learned and developed. https://www.verywellmind.com/type-a-personality-traits-3145240

Hostility As the Key trait in the Type A Personality Cluster
Research by Redford Williams of Duke University indicates that only the hostility component, or a high level of expressed anger and hostility of Type A personality denotes a significant risk factor for heart disease. Irrespective of the personality type, cynical, resentful, chronically angry, and mistrustful men remain highly susceptible to coronary events such as hospitalizations for angina, nonfatal myocardial infarction, stroke and congestive heart failure.
The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine researchers reinforce the theory of hostility as a causative factor for heart diseases by using carotid-artery imaging. Each one-point increase in hostility scores predicted a significantly higher intimal-medial thickening. https://www.healthguideinfo.com/healthy-heart/p74878/
