Understanding Emptiness: A Path to Wholeness
Why Do I Feel Like a Part of Me Is Missing?Feeling like a part of you is missing can be deeply unsettling. This sense of emptiness often manifests as depression, immaturity, and a pervasive sense of isolation, as if there is a glass wall separating you from others. At HealMyLife, we understand that this feeling stems from a deeper issue—the disconnection from your authentic self.
What Is Missing? What you perceive as missing is your true self, your ‘I.’ This authentic self is often buried under the layers of personality we develop to meet societal expectations and demands. These personality layers can obscure our true essence, leading to a sense of emptiness and disconnection. This disconnection is what Jesus referred to when he spoke of the need for the ‘self’ to die, allowing our true, authentic self to emerge.
The Path to RediscoveryExperiencing a breakdown of the false self, while challenging, can be a positive step towards rediscovering your true self. This process, though it may feel like a nervous breakdown, allows for the emergence of your authentic ‘I.’ In some cases, individuals may feel as though their true self is entirely missing. This can manifest in various ways, indicating an under-functioning human spirit:

Biblical FoundationOur understanding is rooted in the belief that the human spirit is the very breath of Almighty God, as described in Genesis 2:7: “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” This divine breath is what animates our true self, and reconnecting with it is essential for overcoming feelings of emptiness.

This can manifest in various ways, indicating an under-functioning human spirit:
- Emotional Isolation: Feeling a persistent separation from others, even in their presence.
- Relationship Challenges: Difficulty in forming and maintaining authentic love relationships.
- Lack of Joy and Love: Struggling to experience or sustain feelings of joy and love, often feeling disconnected from the transcendent emotions that connect us to the divine.
- Spiritual Disconnection: Finding it hard to experience closeness or communion with God, losing the sense of His presence after spiritual activities.
- Creativity Blocks: Difficulty accessing intuition, creativity, and inspiration, feeling cut off from divine sources of inspiration.
- Feeling Like an Orphan: Experiencing detachment in relationships, able to walk away from love without much pain.
- Social Avoidance: Avoiding deep, close, or intimate relationships due to fear of deeper connections.
- Absence of Love: Feeling intermittently loved with significant periods of feeling unloved.
- Inner Self Inaccessibility: Your soul or spirit may feel lost, hiding, or captive, leading to a pervasive sense of something missing in your life.

Why do people with borderline personality disorder feel empty
(People also may feel like a part of then is missing or isolated from people like there is a glass wall between them and others. These feelings may present some times and absent at other times. They may triggered by painful events.)
What causes the feeling of emptiness in Borderline Personality Disorder? It involves the core of the person which is the seat of our identity and the source of our connection with others.
However, not everyone has a strong spirit, a grown up spirit, an emotionally mature core. That is because not everyone has enjoyed healthy love relationships with mother, father , brother and sister etc. That capacity to give and receive love was not brought to life by lack of close bonding in the first year or so of live.
Lacking this capacity to connect leaves one very lonely. It feels like something is missing in your life. There is. The most important part of you is missing. At least it is essentially missing given that it is weak, isolated from others and unable to reach out.
Lacking love, and nurture and unable to connect well with others is related to the feeling of emptiness. That refers to what is missing at the core of your life if you are BPD.
A love relationship in adulthood may help strengthen you spirit. Praying for God's love to nurture you sprit done every day will gradually build up your spirit and make a difference in your life.
